Writing in Your Bible

At the beginning of my walk at a young age, I never really thought about writing in my Bible. I thought it was just highlighting, but nothing else. Since rededicating my life to Christ, I’ve internally battled with writing in my Bible because I don’t like writing in books. At the same time, I tend to forget information and details. So, I’ve decided to write in my Bible.
But before I get into my experience and learning, I wanted to share who has inspired this blog post.
Rachel, from Simple Bible on Instagram, wrote a post about writing in your Bible. She spoke about how many can get caught up in a beautiful Bible and marking it up just because. She also mentioned how what matters is the quality of relationship with our Father and if Scripture is penetrating your heart. At the end of the day, it’s not about writing or underlining just to do it. It’s about did the Scripture convict me? Make me think about my heart placement? What is He teaching me at this moment? Season in my life? That’s what matters.
From the post, I’ve made a point to write and highlight important notes and scriptures that spoke to me. In doing so, I remember more about the context and scriptures that stand out to me. Whenever I’m in service and we have to turn to scripture, I see my notes and highlights, I have more context and I recognize my understanding. It truly isn’t just seeing how pretty my handwriting looks or what I’ve highlighted in green, blue, or purple. It’s about being with the Heavenly Father every day and Him always speaking to me. Trust me, He’s always talking.
I’m proud of my growth and learning that I’ve gotten. I’m not saying not to be proud of any small victory, you should. I caution you to not lose sight of reading His Word and spending time with Him. The point is to learn who He is personally and walk through life together. The longer you learn who He is, the more you understand yourself and your place in the world. You also learn God’s character. He’s funny, thoughtful, passionate, emotional, intelligent and so so much more! There’s more to Him than what the world tries to teach you.
He is who He is.
This isn’t the end all be all post about our Father or me sharing my journey. I’ll leave this here for you to ponder on. It’s okay if you don’t write in your Bible and it’s okay if you do.
Every day spend time with Him and meet Him yourself. You would be surprised by Him.
I love you. You’re worthy.
