The Story of Redemption, Vol. 1 (Genesis – 2 Samuel)

Growing up I didn’t fully read my Bible at all. There would be times I would open it and begin reading, but I wouldn’t really understand what I was reading. I was on an actual reading kick my freshman year in college; unfortunately for me, when things got busy I stopped reading my Bible.
It wasn’t until I rededicated my life to Christ that I began to sit and read my Bible and this need to better understand what I’m reading led to me wanting to read the Bible from beginning to end, from Genesis to Revelation.
(By the way, I don’t know if you knew but it’s Revelation NOT Revelations. Lol I got that mixed more times than I’d like to admit)
So, I was Googling resources and found The Daily Grace. This website is a God sent! They’re a Christian-based organization that seeks to equip Christians with resources to dive into the Word and better understand what they’re reading. They sell Bibles, Bible accessories, Bible studies, home decor, and so much more. You won’t regret checking them out. I warn you though. If you don’t pay attention, you will spend your whole paycheck with their websites. They’re consistently having sales and all of their products are amazing! (Don’t say I didn’t warn you hahaha)
With their resources and the help of my community, I began diving into the Word. I began learning about people I grew up hearing about. I began to better understand God’s character and I was so into it I would read 4 chapters a day. I enjoy reading my Bible.
I began to better understand and see how I fit into the Bible and the world. I started to learn scripture and speak it over myself. The Old Testament is amazing and too many people sleep on it.
As I continued to read, I began to see Jesus ALL over it! So much of the information is not only learning God and who He is, but also seeing foreshadowing to Jesus and what He would do on the cross. I was floored!
After I read each book, I would write things I’ve learned in my journal. Here are what I learned from reading Genesis to 2 Samuel:
Genesis
- Since the beginning, our Father wanted a relationship.
- There are many examples of forgiveness.
- He uses everything for good.
- From day 1, He walks beside His kids.
- He listens and engages His kids.
Exodus
- God wants an intimate relationship with no distractions.
- We are all impatient and fickle.
- Even when we stumble, He won’t take his blessings away.
- God will explicitly tell us what to do, how to do it, and when to do it (He’s VERY specific).
Leviticus
- We’re called to a sabbath to seek and worship our Father. We must learn to rest!
- We must remember where and what God saved us from.
- He’s always trying to chase us and bring us close to Him.
- There will be consequences for our choice of disobedience and not turning from our sins.
Numbers
- Your children will inherit all seeds you plant, honoring to god or not (positive or negative).
- God’s very specific on how we interact with one another (familial, romantic, etc).
- Be a man or woman of your word when you vow something (Don’t take vows lightly).
- God will always provide.
- There’s power in intercession prayer.
Deuteronomy
- God will provide rationale for what He commands.
- God will always keep His promises to His children.
- Prayer is immensely powerful.
- There will always be consequences for our sin and disobedience.
- Vows are sacred.
Joshua
- God keeps His promises.
- He will FLEX to remind us who He is.
- His love has NO bounds.
- It’s that easy to be forgiven (turn from your sin and ask His forgiveness).
- He wants EVERY. SINGLE. part and inch of us to belong to Him.
Judges
- We need Jesus!
- God will flex His all-mighty power when necessary.
- There is sin. It needs to be uprooted and handled immediately.
- We are LOST without Him.
- His intentions are ALWAYS pure.
Ruth
- God’s hand is ALWAYS present even if we don’t see or notice.
- Have faith and trust, but also do the work.
- Your character will be known before you.
- There’s always a choice.
- Redemption is real and is always possible with God.
1 Samuel
- God will judge us for our choices and actions. He is the ULTIMATE judge.
- There’s purpose and power in a mentor in our lives.
- Nothing should be done outside of serving God.
- Nothing can truly last outside of God’s timing and will.
- God will always win.
- There’s power in our names.
2 Samuel
- We will go through many trials in life.
- Immediately repent your sins to God.
- We tend to bring trouble to our lives and blame God.
- Staying close to God will lead to more clarity from Him.
- Our ancestors, grandparents, and parents’ sin impact us, we must partner with God and deal with them.
The more that I read and look back on these notes more gets revealed to me and gets fleshed out a lot more. God being the center of my life will remain and always be a constant. It’s important to know and understand more of who God is and building a relationship with Him because through the relationship, more gets revealed to you and there is a peace that only God can give you. There will be more to come from reading the Bible and I will share it.
