Book Review: Secret History
TW: murders, drug abuse, mentions of incest
Donna Tartt knew exactly what she was doing in this book. Maybe she didn’t but man did this book have me on the edge of my seat.
I didn’t realize how attached I got to these characters and hanging on even single word. The complex way that the characters were written and how real life can be on a college campus.
Man, my attachment to one character, in particular, surprised even me but I was so drawn in. The brooding, intellectual who’s hard to read was *chef’s kiss* lol who would’ve thunk? 🤷🏿♀️😂
At first, I wasn’t so sure about how long the chapters were but she made up for it for the amount of detail and information given within each chapter. Each scene and relationship was set up in a way that gave you a little taste and made you want more.
The way the story unfolded left so many more questions than answers until the very end.
I think this may be my favorite book of the year, I mean there are two and had more months left in 2021 but man is this book that good!

The classics making an appearance appealed to my inner historian. I adore the classics and the subject getting a spotlight was beautiful to see. The obsession that these characters had eluded so much to the Greeks. I adore the classics and enjoy reading about it and I never thought that a book can make it appealing yet so revolting at times.
The way the story unfolded left so many more questions than answers until the very end. I didn’t think certain characters would make the choices that they did. I was annoyed, angry, confused, and shocked at so many points but I loved every minute of it.
I may have graduated from undergrad for about 5 years now but this book made me miss it. This book made me want to learn Greek. I’ve felt inspired and seen in so many ways. Man, this book is something else. I highly recommend you give it a read or even a reread.
