Book Review: Get Out of Your Head

TW: discussions on demon possession and mental illness

As a person who struggles with anxiety, this book made me feel seen. There is a lot of scripture that you can use to help you overcome thoughts that pop into your head. You can’t control what pops into your head, but you can control what STAYS in your head.

This work isn’t going to be easy or a quick journey. It’s going to be very hard. At the same time, it’s going to be so freeing in the long run. We have more power than we think we do.

I strongly suggest inviting your community into this process because they can hold you accountable and speak life into you. Especially when there are more hard days than positive. They can lovingly point out when you’re spiraling. Being in community is very hard and uncomfortable, but it’s necessary and needed.

As a person who goes through overthinking, it’s so hard. I’ve started this work three years ago and I can honestly say that it’s worth it. I have more positive days than negative but I’m not always great at it.

If you’re a Believer, listen or read this book. It’s a great resource. You’ll get so much practical advice and encouragement.

If you’re not a Believer, there are a lot of scripture and concepts that you might not understand and that’s okay. I suggest asking questions and looking up the concepts and scriptures, it can be really helpful to do so. I still believe that you can get practical advice for where you are in life.

I encourage anyone to discuss with friends and family about this book and what you see in it for yourself. It’s a quick read but filled with so much goodness.

Have you read/listened to this book? What are your thoughts? If you haven’t, will you read/listen to it?
